Alex researches the theory, analysis, and implementation of rights of nature in cities. As a UN Harmony with Nature Expert and member of the IUCN World Commission on Environmental Law, he co-developed the Eco Jurisprudence Monitor, the world’s leading database tracking rights of nature. He holds a PhD from the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa and has been a Fulbright Schuman Scholar at New York University. He continues to collaborate with NYU and Università Ca’ Foscari in Venice while working as an MSCA Postdoctoral Fellow at TU Delft since 2026. His projects have been exhibited at various venues, most recently in Lisbon and Doha. Together with Katja, he has drafted the Declarations of the Rights of the Venice Lagoon, launched the campaign for Citizen Danube, and co-authored a book on the rights of urban natures.
