We invite ecologists, lawyers, philosophers, artists, designers, and activists to join the first online GARN EU Hub x Confluence of European Water Bodies Rights of Nature Case Dialogue. A plunge into the river Reuss on May 7, 2026, at 7:30 pm.
Reuss Initiative
This online dialogue spotlights the Reuss Initiative —a pioneering popular initiative (and member of the Confluence of European Water Bodies) in Switzerland seeking legal recognition for the Reuss River and all public waters in the canton of Luzern.
Led by the association Rechtsperson Reuss, President Markus Schaerli and committee member Angelo Breda will share firsthand insights into the journey—from launching a popular initiative to working toward constitutional change.
Listening to the Reuss
Policy action is paired with artistic and technological innovation, inviting citizens to truly hear and respond to the river’s voice and needs. On May 7, designer Jakob Kukula will unveil a common project on combining sensor technology, artificial intelligence, and artistic design to make the Reuss and other European rivers visible, audible, and tangible; a common project of the Confluence of European Water Bodies, the Spree and the Reuss.
Q&A Session
Followed by a Q&A, this session’s aim is to learn from the challenges, pitfalls, and successes, inspire similar cases, and draw on the collective wisdom of our communities to support the Reuss case.
